The Dean of Learning Innovation and Academic Support provides strategic leadership for the College’s learning environment, integrating academic support services with quality assurance and innovation in teaching and learning. This position leads the Library and Learning Centers, Tutoring Services, Academic Advising Services, and the College’s distance learning initiatives. The Dean ensures that all courses—regardless of modality—reflect high standards of instructional quality, accessibility, and engagement, and that student success resources are cohesive, data-informed, and aligned with Coastal Bend College’s mission and strategic goals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary leadership for CBC’s learning environment, integrating academic support, distance education, and instructional innovation to advance teaching quality, student retention, and completion outcomes.
  • Supervise key academic support services—including Libraries, Learning Centers, Tutoring, and Academic Advising—ensuring equitable access, consistent quality, and continuous improvement informed by data and institutional research collaboration.
  • Coordinate holistic and technology-enhanced learning initiatives aligned with CBC’s Pathways Framework, Achieving the Dream principles, and early-alert/advising systems to strengthen student success and persistence.
  • Serve as administrative liaison to the Cougar Innovation Center, providing leadership and supervision for staff and initiatives that promote innovation, instructional design, and faculty professional development.
  • Lead faculty professional-development systems through workshops, online course templates, and professional-learning communities that strengthen pedagogy, accessibility, and effective use of educational technology.
  • Serve as CBC’s Chief Distance Learning Administrator, supervising all online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced instruction; ensuring course quality through adoption of recognized standards (e.g., Quality Matters); and supporting faculty and student readiness for distance learning.
  • Collaborate with Academic Deans and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to align course design, accessibility, and student engagement with SACSCOC standards, assessment practices, and continuous-improvement processes.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and open educational resources (OER) that enhance instructional quality, affordability, and student learning outcomes across modalities.
  • Oversee and manage the Title III Grant, ensuring compliance, budget integrity, and achievement of objectives related to retention, graduation, faculty development, and equitable access to student-support services.
  • Monitor and report performance outcomes, maintaining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for course quality, student success, and innovation initiatives using institutional platforms such as Tableau and SPOL.
  • Prepare and present required internal and external reports for the CBC Board of Trustees, SACSCOC, THECB, and the U.S. Department of Education, ensuring alignment with strategic and compliance expectations.
  • Collaborate across college divisions and represent CBC in regional, state, and national networks focused on distance learning, academic support, and institutional innovation to advance the College’s mission and strategic goals.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned by the College President and/or Vice President of Instruction to support the overall mission and strategic objectives of the institution.

Other Duties:
  • Will participate in College responsibilities such as professional development, strategic planning, appropriate Committees, and SACSCOC compliance. 
  • Ensures student confidentiality and due process are followed. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in higher education administration, instructional technology, curriculum and instruction, or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • At least two years of postsecondary teaching experience, including experience with online and hybrid modalities, and demonstrated success in advancing teaching quality, student learning, and instructional innovation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate (Ed.D., Ph.D., or equivalent) in higher education, educational leadership, or instructional technology.
  • Experience managing federally funded grants (e.g., Title III, Title V, or TRIO) with demonstrated grant writing, compliance, and reporting success.
  • Prior experience in designing or implementing professional development programs for faculty in online learning and instructional innovation.
  • Familiarity with Tableau, SPOL, or comparable institutional data systems for assessment and performance tracking.
  • Prior experience as faculty or instructional designer in a community college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated record of integrating technology to enhance learning and faculty engagement.
