West Virginia State University is looking for an innovative, collaborative, and student-centered Reference and Instruction Librarian to provide high-level research support and service to the WVSU learning community (faculty, staff, and students) and, in collaboration with librarians and faculty colleagues, assist in the development of comprehensive information literacy programs. In the areas of Collection Development and Outreach, the Librarian acts as a liaison to assigned academic departments and in the selection of appropriate materials and promotion of library services. The Librarian is expected to participate in outreach activities to increase both the visibility of the Drain-Jordan Library and its engagement across the WVSU campus and adjacent community. This is a non-classified, essential, FLSA exempt, full-time, benefits eligible position.

Essential Responsibilities for the Reference and Instruction Librarian
  • Provide expert research assistance and consultations to the members of the WVSU learning community (Faculty, Staff, and Students).
  • Assist users in utilizing databases, the online catalog and discovery layer (i.e., Alma/Primo) and available Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted research tools.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in the areas of open access (OA) resources, open educational resources (OER), scholarly communication and AI-assisted research tools.
  • Design and deliver course-specific instruction sessions in the areas of information literacy and the use of the library’s information resources for WVSU faculty tailored to diverse learning styles.
  • Develop asynchronous learning objects to support the library and academic curriculum such as LibGuides and video tutorials.
  • Collaborate with faculty and library colleagues to integrate information literacy outcomes into the curriculum

Minimum Requirements for the Reference and Instruction Librarian
  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from and ALA-accredited institution.
